Gabija’s Dream

When little Gabija was four, she got a nasty oncological disease. Her treatment was a success: she had achieved a remission and enjoyed a carefree childhood for a while. Gabija’s family strongly believed that the illness would not come back, and that the long years of gruesome treatment had passed for good.

 

Sadly, in August of 2011, terrible news struck Gabija’s family for the second time: the acute lymphoblastic B cell leukemia had returned... Again, difficult times were ahead for Gabija: an intense and exhausting treatment, long months spent in the hospital ward, and, due to low blood counts, a depressing solitude (isolation). At the present time, the girl is being prepared for the blood marrow transplantation.

 

Until now, Gabija was able to brighten up her daily routine at the Oncohematology Unit, using her mother’s laptop computer. Gabija, who is now in the elementary school and can read and write very well, likes to play computer games, browse the internet for tips and ideas for her bead craft hobby, and to watch animated movies.

 

Unfortunately, the computer got old and failed. Saddened, Gabija’s mother told us about Gabija’s dream – to have a new portable computer with an internet connection.

 

Fund Rugutė, existing solely on the kindness of its loyal supporters, happily agreed to make this dream come true, and gave Gabija a new laptop computer. Today Gabija is able to browse children websites, improve her bead craft skills, play games and watch fun animations, and communicate with her missed family members and beloved friends. We believe that the new computer will help Gabija to endure the difficult post-transplant period as well.
