CHARITY ACTION FOR LIEPA CONTINUED

A baby-girl Liepa, who is only one year and 5 months old, is unrestingly fighting against the most evil enemy – cancer (neuroblastoma), IV stage of which was diagnosed to Liepa this spring. After four courses of the chemotherapy, which, as the tests‘ results revealed, gave no positive changes, we have decided to consult with the very experienced doctors in the treatment of children neuroblastoma at Timone hospital in Marseilles, France.

The changed scheme of the chemotherapy treatment according to the recommendations of the French doctors gave us the Hope. In September, after the first Charity Action during which many people showed their most kind generosity, Liepa and her parents flew to the hospital in Marseilles for the detailed professional medical examination and further consultation. Doctors confirmed that the changed treatment is showing positive results and certified the state of the partial remission. The treatment using two more courses of the extremely strong CADO chemotherapy was continued in the hospital in Lithuania.

In November The Childhood Cancer Fund RUGUTE will take Liepa and her parents to Marseilles again. The Timone hospital doctors will repeat the control tests and, if the remission state is confirmed, will perform the tumour removal surgery. Thanks to the generosity of people who made the donations during the first Charity Action, we already have enough money to pay for the trip of Liepa and her parents, for the medical tests and the consultation. However, the present amount is not enough to cover the costs of the surgery and to pay for the days in the reanimation and surgery units, where Liepa will have to stay after the surgery. We can not tell now exactly how many days Liepa will have to stay in the hospital.

The initial charge for the surgery is 9625 EUR.

The flight tickets, first consultation and examination will cost app. EUR 3,200. One day at the hospital in Marseilles costs EUR 765. We do not know how many days Liepa will have to stay at the hospital this time.
