Let’s build a bridge of kindness for Alina

We come to you hoping that every child suffering from an oncological disease will find a shelter in the goodness of your hearts. Today we ask for your help for one little girl named Alina.

This May, when Alina just turned five, doctors diagnosed her with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma when trying to determine the reasons for her nausea and lethargy. The chemotherapy treatment Alina received in Lithuania shrunk the tumor but a surgery was needed to completely remove the remnants of the tumor. Lithuanian doctors did not dare to perform the surgery because of a complicated tumor location. The doctors from the Vilnius Children’s Hospital Oncohaematology Department contacted the doctors at the Würzburg University Clinic in an attempt to find a solution for Alina. The doctors of the German clinic agreed to do the surgery to remove the tumor.

Alina and her mother are already in Germany. The first set of tests have been done on October 16 at the Würzburg university clinic and the preliminary date for Alina’s surgery has been set on October 26.

A committee from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania has decided to reimburse for Alina’s health care received in Germany according to the German laws and regulations at the base price. However, the Lithuanian government will not reimburse any other incurred expenses such as taxes or other expenses related to Alina’s health care. The family also has to cover all other expenses such as travel, lodging, meals, transportation and others.

Today we do not know how long Alina will need to be in the hospital after the surgery and what expenses the family will have. Alina’s family is unable to pay event he smallest amount of the costs relating to the medical care in the Würzburg University Clinic on their own.

The surgery is only one of the stops in Alina’s journey through the disease. When Alina comes back to Lithuania she will have to endure more chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

We ask you – please, let’s build a bridge of kindness for Alina and together help her get the effective surgical treatment she needs.

Let’s help this tiny patient make an important step toward Tomorrow.
