Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin

Each year, on the first Sunday of June, Flora Women’s Mini Marathon takes place in Dublin, Ireland’s capital city. It is the biggest of all women’s event of its kind in the world, and the biggest one-day charity event in Ireland. Women of any age and any walk of life take part in this marathon.

The very first Flora Women’s Mini Marathon was run in 1983, and since then it has grown steadily in numbers with its popularity increasing significantly over the last few years. Over those years nearly 780,000 women have entered the event, and this year the number of competitors had a record field of over 40,000 women. Over the years many of Ireland's leading women personalities, including politicians, broadcasters and journalists, have taken part in the Women's Mini Marathon.

The participants are free to choose whether they will run or walk the 10 km distance. It is up to each individual to set her own target – to raise funds for the charity organization of her choice. The choice is usually determined by the woman’s personal experiences or by wishing to commemorate a deceased family member. Every finisher is a winner and receives a commemorative medal and a ribbon to mark the achievement.

Birutė Rimienė, a Lithuanian resident in Ireland, after a sudden loss of her beloved mother, decided to take part in the marathon and raise funds for Childhood Cancer Fund Rugutė. Knowing how much her mother loved children, Birutė had no doubts that dedicating the funds to sick children would make her mother happy.

Kind people, who supported Birutė during the marathon and cared about sick children, raised a total amount of 234 euros. The money was wired to the bank account of Childhood Cancer Fund Rugutė.

From the depth of our hearts we thank Ms. Birutė Rimienė for implementing the noble idea,
and for raising funds for our children.

We thank all the supporters of Birutė who donated money for our Captains.
