The Good Luck Windmills Spread Goodness in Kaziukas Fair

The windmill team slogans cheered everybody up from the 4th to the 6th of March in Vilnius, at the annual Kaziukas Fair. For the third year in a row, this friendly team got together to implement a noble idea – to make, paint and sell good-luck windmills, and to dedicate all the funds to sick children’s needs.

Big and small, brightly colored and unique, decorated with drawings of butterflies, flowers, lizards and apples, the good-luck windmills spread smiles, joy and goodness to many of us.

6587,36 Lt were raised during this noble campaign.

The organizers of the campaign, the sellers, and the ones who bought the windmills, are sharing their thoughts and experiences after the campaign:

Tadas:
The good mood, the fun team of windmill sellers, and the good-will people who bought the windmills will remain in my memories... Let’s hope that future campaigns and ideas like that will join us all to support children for many years.

Jurga:
I am glad to have had an opportunity to let my child know how much fun it is to give, even though your hands and feet are freezing. It was great to meet people who already knew what kind of windmills we were selling, and who were ready to offer us money in exchange for a windmill. Those, who were not aware of our campaign, were attentively listening to us and smiling. It felt so good to hold a windmill in my hand and see people smiling for us. My daughter kept saying: Mom, they are envious of our windmill! Thank you.

Vesta:
The windmills brought a lot of good things to me: the pleasant time spent in a new (but very friendly) team, the windmill seller’s skills, the warm emotions of people who bought the windmills, and the feeling in my heart of being capable to do something unselfish and beautiful.

Gerūta:
They smell like spring, they’re colorful and fun. They are small (but powerful) wind generators that produce positive energy! The wonderful thing is that they brought joy to our big and small hearts for the third time in a row! It is so good to remember the sellers who were singing, dancing and infecting everybody with a good mood. I carried the windmill in the streets of Vilnius, and smiled, seeing someone else carrying the same windmill, a symbol of goodness.

Julija:
I am happy that there are campaigns, such as Good-luck Windmills. The poor weather conditions were not an obstacle for me to purchase a windmill. I would have gone through mountains for one! The windmills are made with incredible warmth and sincerity. The colorful windmills raise our mood and make our days. I am certain that the windmills will bring favorable wind to all the sick children.

Gintė:
The windmill that I bought was bright blue with white polka dots, just like the blue sky with white clouds. My windmill of last year was bright green, and is still twirling in my sister’s yard. She stuck it behind a drainpipe, and it has been buzzing there ever since, looking exactly the same as it did a year ago. My sister’s family now lives in Tallinn; it must be the wind that took them there…

Lyra:
Our goal in Kaziukas fair was simple – to purchase a good-luck windmill! Having visited the Oncohematology Unit of Vilnius Children’s Hospital (a mini Kaziukas Fair was taking place there!), we hurried to the Pilies street, worrying that all the windmills would have been sold! Fortunately, we were able to notice the buzzing windmills from afar. The enthusiastic windmill team infected us with a good mood for the entire weekend. It was fun to carry the windmill around and feel people stare at us. We even got to tell some curious people where to get a windmill, and what the windmills’ mission was! Thank you for this wonderful campaign. Hopefully, the favorable wind will have a good effect on sick children’s lives for many years!

Agnė:
For me, a good-luck windmill is a gift for Dominyka every spring. It’s so nice to see its white wings twirling around on a colorful stick. I can almost hear the sounds of wind milling our thoughts…

Justė, the soul of the windmill team:
This year the good-luck windmills raised 6587,36 Lt. The total amount raised during the last three years is 28 314,93 Lt. But it’s not the amount that matters (although we did get into the mood to raise as much as possible), the most important thing is the discoveries we made during our campaigns:

We discovered that it’s wonderfully good to do good. Sometimes, all you need is a good idea and a few supporters. All of a sudden, there is a bunch of people cutting, drilling and nailing windmills. We did not want to share the coloring job (one could not find a better art therapy)... But we experienced the most fun selling the windmills at Kaziukas Fair. Smiling and talking to people, selling more and more windmills… it is not easy to stop once you get into it! The sellers, who had planned to work only for a couple of hours, stayed there ‘till late night…

We discovered friends. We are all in a hurry and often too busy to spend a minute of free-time with our loved ones. This campaign was one grand time spent with friends, when we got to experience the feeling of unity, and when our children kept asking when we would be making windmills again. It’s the feeling of discovering each other, newly.

We discovered children who we wanted to help. Before our first campaign we already knew that we would like to dedicate the funds to the sick children. However, we did not foresee how important we would become to those children and how important they would become to us. We were afraid to find sadness and fear, but were pleasantly surprised that those children needed smiles, good emotions and support. We felt like sports fans in a big arena, where a fight for life was taking place. None of those children needs sadness. Optimism, good mood and togetherness are the best vitamins for the little ones and their families.

We discovered the fund Rugutė. They are great people who dedicate their own lives to others…Our campaign took only a few days, while they work the entire year. We discovered a friendship that we cherish and value very much.

We discovered good people. It’s not easy to cherish true values in these modern times. We take our hats off to all those who supported us, including those who did not buy a windmill, but supported our idea. If we see a windmill on your lawn or balcony, we will smile to ourselves, knowing that a kind person lives there.

We discovered a six-year-old who gave us a 20 Lt bill (his savings), and said it was for the children. Then we understood that a wish to share, to care for, and to understand each other, is a feeling that is supposed to be cherished, no matter who it is addressed to – a sick child, a neighbor, or just your fellow man.

The windmill campaign is over. We will be back though – not necessarily in Kaziukas, and not necessarily with windmills…We will be back, because we will miss all of this. We wish a favorable wind to all of you!

Just like every year, we cannot find the right words to thank all of you: the organizers of the campaign, the sellers, the ones who bought the windmills, the little and the big helpers who painted the windmill sticks. Thank you for implementing this special and noble idea.

Thank you for cherishing our friendship and for spreading the favorable wind around.
