Friendship Between Fund Rugutė and Singer Vilija Matačiūnaitė

 Goodness is never meaningless. It gives us wings so we can grow stronger and share the goodness with others...

 

Our friendship with Vilija started with Dainora’s wish. One day Dainora quietly shared it with us: Perhaps my wish is unlikely to come true, but I would love it very much if singer Vilija from the musical TV reality show Kelias į žvaigždes could visit me. No other child had shared a wish like this before. I wasn’t able to make it come true on my own. Vilija was so close and yet so far way at the same time. As soon as I shared this wish with others, the goodness began to spread and immediately reached Vilija. She just called us and asked: When and where do I have to be? The same day we were hurrying to visit Dainora. First smiles... first words... Vilija and Dainora held each other’s hands for the rest of the evening. We laughed, played and shared stories. Before leaving, Vilija silently sang Dainora’s favorite song: Spjaudau sau ir gaudau, toks jau mano būdas. The words of the song filled the hospital ward with courage, faith and HOPE... Vilija promised to return. And she did return a week later. This time she shared even more hopes and strength with Dainora. Even though Dainora could not speak, Vilija said: There are times when silence tells much more than speech...

 

We take off our hats to Singer Vilija. We thank her for making Dainora’s wish come true, for holding her hand, and for allowing her to know she was a Friend... We believe that Vilija has become a Friend of all of us, and that her song Spjaudau sau ir gaudau... will become a theme song for the next meeting The Island of Friends. We were spellbound by Vilija’s sincerity. Goodness has rippled down from Vilija’s heart to the hearts of the members of her fan club, too. Encouraged by Vilija they are actively spreading the message about Rugutė’s activity and inviting everyone to join in making children’s dreams come true.
